Facilities available during the Conference

  • Oral Presentations: Standard overhead projector and video-beamer will be available. Please bring your power-point (or other) presentation on a memory stick, or CD-ROM. Your presentation will be loaded on our laptop, tested in advance, and you will operate it directly. Both Windows and Linux will be available. The beamer has a 1024x768 resolution.

A recent on-line document by Dr. Paul Edwards (University of Michigan) provides excellent suggestions for "How to Give an Academic Talk." Following these guidelines will enliven our meeting and make our presentations so much more enjoyable. http://www.si.umich.edu/~pne/PDF/howtotalk.pdf
Before reading a paper at INSAP or any conference, please consider the following suggestions: http://chronicle.com/jobs/news/2008/03/2008032101c.htm

  • Posters: Posters will be displayed in spaces comfortably on the floor above the Auditorium, to allow their viewing during coffee and lunch breaks. A 58 cm (width) x 118 cm (height) maximum area will be available for each poster. Means to attach posters will be provided.

Poster Sessions offer excellent opportunities for extended informal discussions. When well designed, posters are not simply journal papers pasted onto boards, but are a unique type of expression. A poster should be a clear, simple presentation that will be read and remembered, and can be just as effective as a spoken presentation. Here are two web sites that will help you prepare an effective poster. They give somewhat different advice and approaches.

  • Internet/e-mail access: a few terminals will be available. The Conference venue will have wireless access to Internet. To use this opportunity you need to ask the Reception Desk for the special "enabling card" whose cost is covered by the Conference Fee. Please ask for the card only if you plan to use it.
